I love writing and wrote my first story in the second grade.  I used to think you could only be a writer if you lived in New York.  I changed my mind about moving there, but I kept writing anyway. Communicating with others through the written word gives me great satisfaction and a tremendous sense of freedom.  After earning a BA in English, I struggled to find the perfect career. While I enjoy my day job as a paralegal, I have always liked writing more than just legal memos and briefs.

I was excited to discover so many opportunities for writers on the internet. I stumbled upon HubPages and enjoy the chance to explore new interests and ideas, while sharing my knowledge about a variety of interests. You can join our community here on HubPages and earn income for sharing your interests and what you know.

Knowledge seems to have become something to quantify and spell out on a resume.  You either have it or you don’t.  Yet when you review a person’s resume, you don’t really learn very much about what they know or how their experiences have shaped who they are.

Real world experience and knowledge are difficult to categorize or organize.  These things can’t be legislated, formulated into a state standard and taught to children or defined by a company’s mission statement. Yet the knowledge we acquire on our journey through life forms the person we become and shifts as we grow and change throughout the years.  The question is:  how do we recognize and promote the acquisition of real world knowledge and use it to improve society?  I look forward to sharing these kinds of ideas with you and learning from others on HubPages.

Besides writing, I enjoy traveling. My husband and I plan to move to another country in a few years to live life at a pace that allows us to enjoy life more. We look forward to immersing ourselves in a new culture, while meeting new people.

I was raised on a dairy farm, so I also toy with the idea of someday starting a small farm or learning to make artisanal cheeses. I love dogs and have two King Charles Cavalier Spaniels, some of the sweetest dogs you will ever meet. They wouldn’t make very good search and rescue dogs though, which is something else I’d like to explore.  A few of my other interests include:  dollhouse miniatures, crafting, knitting, scrapbooking, dance and photography. Whatever interests I'm pursuing at the moment, I plan to continue writing about my experiences and learning from others along the way.

My favorite quote is from Sophia Loren.  "Mistakes are part of the dues one pays for a full life."  I may make a few mistakes along the way, but I intend to live life to the fullest.  Thank you for sharing the journey with me.
